Monday evening's meeting saw a nice turnout of 33 quilters, in spite of reports of many quilters being sick. We are glad to welcome new member, Pam!
Our program was capably presented by Judi @willwork4fabric who shared her expertise and experiences navigating and utilizing the MQG's website: https://www.themodernquiltguild.com
Members are encouraged to take advantage of the many resources available: webinars, Fresh Quilting TV, monthly patterns, block-of-the-months, and member discounts! You can also print a membership card. And be sure to set up "My Profile," join a "circle," and check out a variety of interest circles such as foundation paper piecers, walking foot quilters, and even a "Vintage Sewing Machines" group!
Judi also gave a review of the QuiltCon app, a software program by eventScribe. Members should have received an email with information about how to get the app, login, and select and load one's own schedule. It's pretty nifty, and will be an extremely usable app for QuiltCon attendees!
If you aren't going to QuiltCon, you can watch the awards ceremony as it's live-streamed on Wednesday evening, February 20. Check back here for information about how to do that.
Central Florida MQG members who are also members of Quilting Guild of The Villages, had the opportunity to enter modern quilts into QGOTV's "Showcase of Quilts," January 25-26. A "modern" category was new this year, and we were happy to see participation by many of our members.
Here are a few of the quilters, with quilts that appeared in the modern category.
Nancy @nancymenn and her "Flitter" quilt that received honorable mention.

Corinna @potterquilter turned a pile of nine-patch blocks, made with Kaffe Fassett fabrics into this quilt. For the first time, she used a longarm machine to quilt it herself.
Ardie @fatquarteraddict won a first place ribbon for "Wonky Windows" made with Kaffe Fassett fabrics. She quilted it on her longarm.
Linda @flourishingpalms received an honorable mention for "Urban Trek," a design by Heather Black @quiltachusetts. She home machine quilted it, and added big stitch hand quilting to enhance the design.
Linda received a first place ribbon for "Always Add Orange," a quilt design that appeared in the triangles issue of Curated Quilts magazine. It is home machine quilted.
Becky @rchianese26 made this transparency quilt following a design by Yvonne Fuchs @quiltingjetgirl. She walking foot quilted it on her home machine.
Last month, Ruth @sewocd shared her "Heading South" quilt, a pattern by Material Girl Quilts, so everyone got a good chuckle from seeing Linda's @blu24berry version of the same pattern called "Heading North." 😂 Linda made it using "Flow" fabrics by Zen Chic. On her home sewing machine she quilted with a ruler and free motion quilting.
Our newest member, Pam @plpalmer1953 quilted this Dream Big panel on her longarm. This is a popular way to practice free motion quilting. See more of these on Instagram #dreambigpanel.
Ardie @fatquarteraddict made a tote for her electronic devices using a Simplicity bag pattern with fusible Bosal In-R-Form, for stability.
Lynette @netsyclay made this jelly roll quilt for her mother's upcoming birthday.

Dee @quilterdee shared her finished "Ombre Gems," made during an Instagram quilt-along with @emily_dennis_ Fabrics are Vanessa Christenson's metallic ombre dots.

In 2013, Central Florida MQG members participated in a BOM led by Bay Area Modern. Beth @blue_dragonfly5 turned her blocks into a film strip quilt. She recently completed a second film strip quilt. She anticipates they'll both hang in her daughter's new home. Beth used wool batting for it's light weight, and walking foot ("walking arm" 😂 inside joke - you had to have been there) quilted it.
NEXT MEETING
Take note!
Our next meeting is one week earlier than usual! Due to a conflict at North Lake Presbyterian Church, we will be meeting on the first Monday of the month.
Monday, March 4 - 6:30 pm
Our program will be given by members who attend QuiltCon. We'll have everyone review something they noticed or experienced at QuiltCon - a significant lecture; a wonderful workshop; a modern trend observed... whatever any attendee cares to share.
Come to share our fun, informal, social get-together!
