The Modern Quilt Guild has recently sent member reminders that the Riley Blake Challenge deadline is February 17.
Revealing Our Riley Blake Challenge
Our chapter has chosen to participate in the challenge among ourselves, and have set our finish and reveal deadline for the Monday, January 13 meeting - 6:30 p.m.
Thirteen CFMQG quilters are participating, so we'll no doubt see some creative designs at the reveal. If you have a challenge entry, please remember to be at the meeting by 6 p.m. so we can hang/display the pieces. Everyone attending the meeting will be invited to cast a vote for the Riley Blake Viewer's Choice Award, which will be announced at the meeting.
After the meeting, a separate judging will occur, using the skills of experienced modern quilters Marny Buck and Jill Guffy of Ames, Iowa, co-owners of Modern Quilt Relish. Marny and Jill have previous experiences selecting "Best Modern Design" winners for other MQG chapters. Criteria for choosing a winner will be based on the elements of modern quilt design - not technique - since they will be selecting a winner based on the photographs emailed to them. The Riley Blake Best Design Challenge Award will be announced on this blog, and by email. The winner will be awarded a 15-piece fat quarter bundle of Riley Blake Medium Dots.
Other MQG chapters across the US are participating in the challenge. Check out Kansas City MQG's recent Riley Blake Challenge reveal.
Central Florida MQG January Program
Also at our January 13 meeting, we'll enjoy a special program by our own talented Doris who will help us understand "Color, Hue and Value" and how those characteristics relate to modern quilting.
Karen, our new chapter leader, and her leadership team are working on some exciting activities for 2014. Are you up for:
a swap?
a challenge?
a workshop with a guest speaker?
making a thank-you quilt for the church where we meet?
a few Sew-Ins?
These are among some of the things being planned for 2014 and we hope you'll be part of it! Our chapter has been thriving for 15 months because you are saying, "yes" when asked to participate and help. In 2014, we hope you'll continue to make Central Florida MQG the "happenin' chapter!"
Don't forget to wear your home sewn name tag to the January meeting! If you're in need of name tag inspiration, check out all the ideas here.
We can't wait to see you next year!
