May 13 Meeting

A whopping 32 quilters attended our May 13 meeting, with two of those quilters joining our chapter, and one a first-time visitor. As always, we're happy when quilters are interested in modern quilts!

Each month, our library offers for check-out a wonderful array of modern quiltmaking books, magazines, and quilting rulers. (Click the tab above to see all the titles/authors.) Our chapter also now subscribes to Curated Quilt magazine/journal.

Our evening program was to have members show and share their "It's All About Color" challenge quilts. However, we viewed our regular Show and Tell quilts first.

Dee @quilterdee showed her 38" X 38" "Expanding Star" quilt, a pattern by Emily Dennis. Dee quilted it on her Bernina 780 sewing machine.

Corinna @potterquilter missed Beth's "Interleave" workshop at February's Saturday Sew-In, but made a 12" X 18" version on her own. She quilted it on her sewing machine, and made a faced binding.

Lynette @netsyclay made four 15" X 19" placemats like this using the "Intersection" pattern by Rock Solid. She quilted them on her Janome sewing machine.

Cindy @cbubblesnsews also made placemats following Angela Walter's "Midnight Quilt Show," episode called "Quilt As You Go Placemats," found on YouTube. Without quilting, she added binding to finish them.

Pam used a 42" X 42" panel called "Dream Big" by Hoffman Fabrics on which to display her quilting skills on a Statler longarm machine.

Barb made "First Try," a 50" X 50" quilt from Brigitte Heitland's design: "Tangerine Dreams." She hired a longarm quilter for quilting.

Linda @flourishingpalms showed two quilts made with inspiration from Christina Camelli's book "Modern Wedge Workshop." Linda calls the design, "Carousel." Both quilts are 33" X 33" and were made with three fabrics and a 9° wedge ruler. This quilt was quilted on a Bernina 770QE using a wave ruler, with perle cotton big stitch hand quilting in the center.

This version of "Carousel" was also quilted on her Bernina with rulers and walking foot spiral quilting.

President Karen made Elizabeth Hartmann's "Lloyd and Lola" - this is Lola! - a 43" X 58" llama quilt for her granddaughter. She used a walking foot to quilt it on her Janome 9400QCP sewing machine.

After so many great show and tell pieces, we turned our attention to 25 fantastic modern quilts made for our It's All About Color challenge. If you didn't attend the meeting, check out our next blog post to see what you missed!
