Guest Presenter

Our April 8 evening meeting was held at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Oxford, and featured guest speaker Carole Lyles Shaw from Bradenton, Florida, where she is a member of the Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild.

Carole was introduced by President Karen.
President Karen
Carole presented an informative program about the importance of contrast in quiltmaking, including considering value and where contrast and value appear in a quilt.

For such a downpour-rain evening, we had good member turnout.

Carole began with a Powerpoint presentation, and concluded with a trunk show of her beautiful improvisation quilts.

This is a modern patriotic quilt made with ombré fabrics.

This black and white quilt demonstrates how Carole utilized a white on black print and a black on white print to create value changes and contrast.

In this quilt, an ombré fabric helps achieve contrast, including in side borders.

Following the presentation, members enjoyed looking more closely at Carole's quilts.

We certainly appreciate everything we learned from Carole, and look forward to seeing what our workshop participants make with blocks begun in the workshop. See previous post.

Our next Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild meeting is Monday, May 13 at 6:30 pm. (Click calendar at right for detailed information.) We'll return to our regular meeting space at North Lake Presbyterian Church in Lady Lake.

Our program will be revealing members' quilts made for the It's All About Color challenge (detailed information here), and receiving participation prizes.

In the absence of our challenge coordinator Beth, the program will be led by Debbie.

Be sure to join us this coming Saturday, April 13, for our monthly Sew-In at the Belleview Public Library.

Come anytime starting at 10 am, until.... ? We can't wait to see you!
