Ardie (Instagram: FatQuarterAddict) shared her first appliqué quilt made for her daughter who is ending six years of work in the roller derby. Ardie used a Facebook picture of her daughter to design the appliqué. She quilted this on her longarm.

Polly began making this improv quilt in a workshop with member Debbie. It's "Floating Squares," the first score in Sherry Lynn Wood's book "Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters." Polly walking-foot quilted it on her home machine.

Monique (Instagram: FoleyDerenne) used a pattern in "Modern Patchwork Magazine" to make this quilt that she walking foot quilted on her home machine.

This is the second "Cartwheels" quilt Dee (Instagram: QuilterDee) has made. The foundation paper piecing pattern is by Lee Heinrich (Freshly Pieced). Dee walking foot quilted it on her home machine using a double cross-hatch design.

Gwen (Instagram: FlaQuiltz) made this pattern from "Stitch Happens. She used two layers of wool batting and walking foot quilted it on her home machine.

While recovering from surgery, Tambry improv-pieced this table runner, with a Halloween-ish feeling to it.

Linda (Instagram: FlourishingPalms) made "Diamonds in the Pond" as a year-long quilt-along by Bernina Zen Chic. She used wool batting, and quilted it on two different domestic machines. Triangles were quilted with a combination of ruler work and free motion quilting, and negative spaces were quilted with a walking foot.

Beth (Instagram: Blue_Dragonfly5) designed this mini quilt for "Curated Quilts" (magazine) house challenge. She named it "Nana and Papa's House on Wheels" as a remembrance of five years spent living in a motor home. This is the fourth time Beth has entered a "Curated Quilts" challenge.

As an aside...
Beth will have an improv quilt on the cover of the next issue of "Curated Quilts," due to be released in October. Here is a picture of Beth with the cover quilt, when she shared it during Show and Tell in November, 2017. The quilt is pieced from clothing Beth won in a giveaway from Sherry Lynn Wood, and clothing from a relative. Beth walking foot quilted it on a home machine.

We're all very proud of you, Beth!

Our evening program, "Inspiration for Modern Quilting," was presented by Debra Jalbert (Instagram: MadeofHonorQuilts) who is a member of the Orlando MQG (Instagram: OrlandoMQG). She offered many good suggestions for resources and ways to develop quilting designs.

At our tables, we exercised with paper and pen, to draw quilting ideas for three different quilt tops. Thank you so much, Debra, for sharing your skills with us!

Fee: $15, plus $5 paper kit. Optional $12 fabric kit.

English paper piecing dates back to the late 1700s when hexagon quilts became popular in England.  The technique involves basting fabrics over paper templates and then sewing the shapes together by hand.  In this introductory workshop to English paper piecing, students will learn the basic techniques including how to cut the fabric, baste the pieces and hand sew them together along with tips and tricks to complete the project successfully.  In addition, Jen will also show you how fussy cut fabric and use this technique to create secondary designs with a wow factor.

This is the workshop project that finishes at 24" X 24".
