Two Announcements

We need your quilt for "What Makes a Quilt Modern?" at World Quilt Florida (January 19-21, 2018).

The submission deadline is Wednesday, November 1.

This is a unique opportunity for our chapter to showcase the wonderful modern quilts we have seen during more than two years of show-and-tell. Let's share with quilt show attendees all the talent in our chapter, and thereby educate and encourage others to also "make modern."

More than 40 of our Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild members have not entered a quilt! If this is you, please consider making a submission. It will not be judged.

Quilts for our Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild display can be turned in during our regular Monday, January 8, 2018 chapter meeting. Or, can be given to one of our own World Quilt Florida Committee members by January 15.

Don't delay! Submit your quilt now!
Submit your entry via the link in the emails sent by President Karen.

You'll have plenty of time later to add that hanging sleeve! 💆

Thursday, November 2
From 10 am to noon our Executive Committee will meet at Panera Bread, Sumter Landing, in The Villages. We'll be doing lots of planning for 2018. All members are welcome!

Then, complete our Central Florida MQG online submission form.
The link to our chapter's submission form appeared in emails from President Karen on September 5 and October 4. Use that link only, please!
Do not submit directly to World Quilt Florida or the Mancuso Quilt Show.
You'll need to enter:

November Program Change

Due to Hurricane Irma forcing cancellation of our September 11 meeting, instead of the previously- planned program for the November 13 meeting ("Wedge Quilts Go Modern"), we're going to have the program previously planned for September.

Tips and Demos for Modern Quilters
The program is a compilation of assorted quilting tips and demonstrations by our members.
We'll form groups and visit different tables to watch demonstrations and mini-lessons, including: 1) how to use several specialty rulers; 2) how to sharpen rotary cutting blades; 3) which markers to use on fabric; and 4) how to use paper for quilting designs.

Come to North Lake Presbyterian Church in Lady Lake on a Monday, November 13 at 6:30 pm to learn about something new!

Amanda Jean Nyberg - CrazyMomQuilts - arrived in The Villages on on Sunday, October 1. Thank you, Susan S. for driving to and from Orlando to bring Amanda Jean to us!

These members of our executive committee, and committee chairs shared dinner with Amanda Jean at Mallory Hills Country Club: (from L-R) Membership Co-Chair Dee; President Karen; Amanda Jean; Past President Debbie; Retreat Co-Chair Cindy; Membership Co-Chair Jane; Treasurer Kathy; and Media Coordinator Linda.

President Karen treated Amanda Jean to a golf cart drive to/from dinner. It's the best way to go in The Villages!

Amanda Jean led the "Spin" workshop on Monday with 20 quilters in attendance.

Everyone worked with colorful scraps to create their own spin on projects in Amanda Jean's book No Scrap Left Behind.

Special thanks to Susan not only for bringing Amanda Jean to The Villages, but also for being our workshop angel. She assisted Amanda Jean, and coordinated our lunches and afternoon snacks!

The same evening, at North Lake Presbyterian Church, approximately 70 members and guests came to Amanda Jean's trunk show. President Karen welcomed everyone.

Amanda Jean shared a little about herself and her family, and her quiltmaking story.

These are few of the 20 scrap quilts that Amanda Jean shared from No Scrap Left Behind... "Hot and Cold"

"All Sizes" and "Bruiser"

"Ring Me"

Then, members who had made an Amanda Jean design were invited to share their projects.

Dee showed "Checkerboard," a quilt from the book Sunday Morning Quilts written by Amanda Jean and Cheryl Arkison.

Jane showed her version of "Chain of Diamonds" in her favorite collegiate colors.

Celina showed "June" and....

"Remainders."

Karen shared her version of "All Sizes."

Everyone who met Amanda Jean learned that she's a delightful quilter who is an inspiration when it comes to creating scrap quilts, and basically... all things scrappy. We're thrilled that our chapter could welcome her to Central Florida!

Reminder
There is NO meeting on the second Monday of October! (October 9 would have been our regular meeting date). Amanda Jean's trunk show was our October meeting!
