November Show and Tell and VOTE

Since we had guest presenters at both our September and October meetings, we had
28 show and tell quilts and projects* at our November meeting!

*Please note that our Show and Tell form is now always available for downloading and printing. Click on the "Chapter Documents" tab above. It's the first item!

Ardie @fatquarteraddict started making this quilt during the October 14 "Murmuration Quilt" workshop with Rebecca Bryan. Ardie calls this 39" X 56" quilt "Sailor's Delight." She quilted it on her longarm.

Dee @quilterdee shared six finishes. "Tessellation" is a pattern by Alison Glass and Nydia Kehnle. This 48" X 60" quilt is foundation paper pieced and Dee quilted it on her Bernina 780.

This 10” X 24" "Rainbow Guitar" pattern by K.E. Collins, is Dee's remembrance of attending 2019 QuiltCon in Nashville. The design is foundation paper pieced and quilted on her Bernina 780.

"Color Wave," a pattern by Kristen Esser, appeared in the summer 2017 issue of Quilts and More magazine. This 56-1/2" X 68-1/2" half-square triangle quilt was cut using a Bloc Loc ruler. Dee quilted it herself on her Bernina 780.

Dee used the No Waste Flying Geese technique to cut and piece this 65" X 65" "Twisted Geese" pattern by Zen Chic. Fabrics are also by Zen Chic, and backing fabric is by Victoria Findley Wolfe. Dee quilted it on her Bernina 780.

This 68" X 72" Zig Zag quilt is Dee's variation of Thimbleblossom's "Zipper" pattern. She pieced it with a Moda jelly roll  - "Beach Road" - that she won on Instagram, and quilted it on her Bernina 780.

Dee's very happy to have a friend - Karen E. - who for Dee's birthday, made this Sew Together bag for Dee, using Dee's own Sew Together bag kit! Dee purchased the kit at QuiltCon. Pattern by Sew Demented.

Nancy @nancymenn shared three Show and Tell items. First up is her 8-1/2" X 3" X 5" "Clearly Carryall Pouch." It's full of Aurifil thread spools!

"Holiday Forest" is Nancy's 54" X 72" improv-cut tree quilt. She pieced and quilted it on her Bernina 770.

"Jingle Jangle" is 52" X 64" and was made from the pattern by Seamed To Be. She pieced and quilted it on her Bernina 770.

Rebecca quilted four colorways of the 44" X 44" Dream Big panel made by Hoffman Fabrics. All four quilts were free motion quilted by Rebecca on her domestic machine, a Viking Epic.
Colorway "Horizon"
Colorway "Ivory"
Colorway "Slate"
Colorway "Peacock"
See all colorways of Dream Big panels here.

Ruth @sewocd shared two finishes. Her first is "Color Burst," a 42-1/2" X 42-1/2" quilt from the book Paper Pieced Modern by Amy Garro. (This book is in our chapter library!) Ruth walking foot quilted it on her Bernina 880.

Ruth's second quilt is "African Jewels," a pattern by Janine Burke that Ruth made using fabrics by Marcia Derse. She inserted pieces of silk into the piecing, and quilted it on her Bernina 880.

Ruth pieced the backing with metallic dot ombré fabrics.

Debbie @dbook1 has been on a snack-bag zipper-pouch-making binge. She learned to make these from Cindy @cbubblesnsews who taught our members during a Saturday Sew-In.

Shloe used batik fabrics and a Bloc Loc Triangle-In-A-Square ruler to make this table runner. She quilted it on a domestic machine.

Diane @dbcfla made "Rise," a foundation paper pieced quilt pattern by Katy Devlin from issue 18 of  Make Modern magazine. Diane used the 2018 Kona Color of the Year, Tiger Lily, and quilted this approximately 50" X 60" quilt on her Bernina 570.

Rosemary @daisys_driver made this 2019 - 100 Days 100 Blocks - quilt using the "Kinship Fusion Sampler" pattern for an Instagram quilt along. It's approximately 80" X 60" and Rosemary quilted it herself on her Viking domestic machine.

Beth @blue_dragonfly5 designed "Celebrate Life" after reaching her 75th birthday, and appreciating her life's journey. Beth used a photo as inspiration for the background, and machine appliquéd the turn-under edges of each letter. She walking foot and free-motion quilted it on her domestic machine.

Karen @sunrayatplay showed the bag made by Lynette from fat quarters provided by Karen. This was a "brown bag" exchange among quilters in a different quilt group.

Karen's 44" X 56" "Berlin United" quilt was inspired after a visit to formerly-divided Berlin, Germany. The top is pieced with 6" square foundation paper pieced blocks, made during Leila's Year of Scrappy Triangles.

Linda @flourishingpalms made this scrappy, fabric foundation pieced "Sunbeam Tote" when she tested a new pattern by Christina Cameli @afewscraps, our September guest presenter. The tote is made with a "vegan leather" (also known as vinyl) base and handles.

Note: Christina's new fabric line is "Moongate" and "Horizon Ombres" by Maywood Studios. See the fabrics here.

Linda intended to enter the 2020 QuiltCon Indah Batiks Challenge, but didn't follow the rules (only solid batiks could be added to the five print batiks). She finished it anyway. Her 32" X 39-1/2" batik quilt is called "Break the Rules: Jewels," and was cut using the jewel shape of a Hex 'n More ruler. Linda quilted with rulers and free motion quilting on her Bernina 770, and finished it with a facing.

"Cascade" is a 87" X 94" quilt from Victoria Findley Wolfe's book Modern Quilt Magic. Linda free motion quilted it on her Bernina 770.

Cindy @cbubblensews made a rug from a jelly roll. She learned how from Debbie @dbook1.

Dawne @niqui6596 won second place in the 2018 Hoffman Challenge with her bag, "Gems Are A Girl's Best Friend!" Dawne received a cash award and prizes. Congratulations!

This was a great show and tell, wasn't it? Whew!

DON'T FORGET

No regular meeting in December!

Instead, on Monday December 9, at 6:30 pm, we will meet at the home of member Ardie for our annual holiday party.

Please bring:

1) a small snack to share with six to eight people
2) and, if you wish a wrapped $12 to $15 sewing/quilting-related item for our Chinese gift swap.

If possible, due to limited parking space, please carpool to Ardie's home.

On Friday, November 15 you will receive an email with a link to vote for our 2020 Executive Committee members. Those positions are president; vice president; secretary; 1st treasurer; 2nd treasurer; program coordinator; and media coordinator. (Click on "Chapter Documents" tab above for information about these positions.)

Please note!
At our November 14 Executive Committee meeting, it was determined that our chapter bylaws need two amendments to make our Chapter's annual executive committee elections align with Floridas requirement that we register (and provide the names of executives) with SunBiz by April.

These are the proposed bylaw changes:

ARTICLE 7 - NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS
Section 4. Elections
Elections for Executive Committee positions shall occur in November March.

ARTICLE 8 - EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE POSITIONS
Section 6. Terms
The Executive Committee members shall assume office in January April and shall serve for one year, or until successors are elected and installed.

You'll vote for 2020 Executive Committee members, and two changes to our bylaws.

Voting will take less than two minutes! Please vote at your earliest opportunity.

Voting closes November 19.
