2019 QuiltCon Charity Quilt

For each of the past three years, members of the Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild have made a quilt to enter in QuiltCon's annual Charity Quilt Challenge.

The Modern Quilt Guild (MQG) determines the parameters for the challenge - design theme, fabric colors, and quilt dimensions. Each chapter's challenge is to make the quilt, and then ship it to QuiltCon. Charity quilts are displayed around the perimeter of a lecture hall, and/or along the hallways to the show room and classrooms.

When the show ends, quilts are returned to each chapter. The chapter then determine where the quilt will be donated.

Our 2017 charity quilt was donated to Luther Springs Camp and Conference Center in Hawthorne, Florida

Our 2018 charity quilt was donated to the regional St. Jude Children's Hospital annual charity fundraiser. It sold to a private buyer for $230.

Our 2019 quilt... to be determined!

Charity Quilt 2019

This year's QuiltCon theme: Small Piecing

This year's color palette:

This year's quilt dimensions: Twin size which is 65" X 88", and no larger than 72" X 92".

Our committee was led by Jane and included Bette, Dee, and Beth. Beth came up with this design, created in EQ8.
The wonky, improvisational wedge design was inspired by Elizabeth Hartman's "Xylophone" quilt pattern. Permission to use was given by Elizabeth.

Fabrics for the design were requested from PBStudios, and these Paintbrush Studios Solids were sent to us at no charge! Thank you PBStudios

The committee cut and assembled kits, with instructions, that were given to members.

Members whose help we greatly appreciate are:

Deanna, Barbara, Cindy, Marie, Gwen, Missy, Jane, Linda H., Peggy, Bette, Nancy, Dee S., Carla, Beth, Susan, Ardie.

Quilter's Dream Select loft cotton batting was donated by Jane.

Special thanks to Karen E. for sit-down, free motion quilting this special quilt.

Photos were taken at the Belleview Public Library, where we meet monthly for our Saturday Sew-Ins.

Our January 14 meeting was the first full reveal of the quilt. Jane (left) explained how it was made, and thanked those involved.

A chapter contest was held to name the quilt, and the winner was Lynette who came up with "All Stacked Up and Nowhere to Go." For her winning suggestion, she received the Painter's Palette Solids leftover from making the quilt.

We hope everyone who attends QuiltCon in Nashville, February 21-24, will enjoy seeing our quilt displayed!
